Question

When attempting to update my company file to the latest version of QuickBooks, why do I get the error:  (-14102,0) or (-14108,0)

Answer

You will get this error if the company file you are trying to upgrade is damaged.

Go back to the previous version of QuickBooks, repair the file and upgrade again.

Detailed Instructions

1.    Open your company file in the previous version of QuickBooks and

a.    Create a Portable Company File – File > Save Copy or Backup > Create a Portable Company File

b.    Restore the Portable Company File

c.    Resort all Lists

d.    Rebuild the file – File > Utilities > Rebuild

e.    When complete, verify the file – File > Utilities > Verify

2.    At the end of the verify, if you do not get the message: No errors found, examine the QBWin.log file:

                                   i.    Press F2 on your keyboard then F3 to open the TechHelp screen

ii.    Click on the Files tab

iii.    Double click on QBWin.log in the list on the left-hand side

iv.    Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.  Move slowly up to identify where the last verify commenced and finished.  Follow up on errors identified

                                  v.    When all errors address, Rebuild and Verify again.

vi.    If you still get errors, examine the QBWin.log file and follow up on any errors identified.  Rebuild and Verify again

vii.    If the same errors are being recorded then the Rebuild cannot repair the damaged transactions.  Contact Data Recovery.

3.    When no errors are left create a new backup of your company file.

4.    Restore your backup to the latest edition of QuickBooks.
